AIM Classes

Barrett recently started attending AIM classes at school.  He attends once a week on Wednesday.
I love love love his teacher Mrs. Georgous.  She constantly challenges her students, allows them to use their imagination and pushes them to take risks.

Every week, Mrs. Georgous shares what the students did in class. There is usually a full page "write-up" and pictures attached.

Here are some of the past few weeks:

Here is an example of the parent updates that we get on a weekly basis!  WOW!  Mrs. Georgous goes ABOVE and BEYOND!
Dear Kindergarten AIM families,
Yesterday in AIM we started the day doing a “logic line up.” This is a higher level thinking activity. The students have to use logic in order to put various animals in a line (sequencing). I had 4 students stand at the front of the class. Each student held up a picture of a different farm animal. I gave the class several clues and they had to tell me where the animals should line up based on these clues. As the students were given more information they had to adjust the line up. For example I told the students, “the rooster is on the end, the cow is NOT in the middle, the pig is next to the cow and the horse is on the left of the rooster!” This activity is fun, it sharpens their thinking skills. It develops spatial vocabulary, and promotes cooperation and team building.
Next we read a book called Think-A-Ma-Jink by Dave Whamond. This tells the story about a boy that is tired of receiving toys that don’t require imagination. He mysteriously gets a box of random objects that allows him to explore and use his imagination in BIG ways.
After reading the book the students went to their tables and found a pile of random objects waiting for them. Their job was to use their imagination to build their own think-a-ma-jink object. It was neat hearing about all of the features your child included in their creations. Each item attached seemed to have a deliberate function. The students were so involved in their constructions that we used up the rest of our AIM time!
Thank you for sharing your children with me! I have really enjoyed getting to know them. I have been very pleased with their wonderful manners! Thank you for expecting big things from them….I appreciate it!
Have a great day!
