Red Koolaid

Oh my! I should have know this would be coming, but we've had our first really, big, bad, nasty stain on the living room carpet. It's all my fault (I must admit). I should have known better than to sit my glass of RED Koolaid on the side table next to our couch. Barrett was 5 minutes from heading to bed, when his curiosity got the best of him. He reached right up on his tippy toes and pulled the glass forward to see what was inside. Sure enough.........SPLAT / SPLASH....all over him and the carpet.
I don't have pictures, but trust me, it's there (although much lighter in color...a nice shade of pink). I've tried everything, and it's not coming out.

Here's the humor in it all.
The morning after the spill, I looked down at his legs. I noticed there were little red speckles all over his legs. My immediate reaction was, "Oh man, this kid is coming down with a rash or something!" Then it dawned on my that I hadn't really cleaned him up after he tipped over the glass. I had changed his clothes and washed off his upper body...but apparently the Koolaid had spilled onto his legs and stained them up a bit! ha ha
After a little soap and water, he was nice and clean. Too bad the carpet wasn't.

Talk About It

More and more, Barrett seems to be trying to communicate with me. His expressions are hilarious and I love the faces he makes. When he really has something to say though, you better listen (and play along like you understand).

Broken Bow, OK

Wow! What a beautiful place! I had never even heard of Broken Bow, OK until Matt came home with a plan to take us there for our summer vacation.
We rented a little cabin that was tucked away in pine trees of the forest, and might I mention...on top of STEEP incline. They warned us about needing a 4x4 vehicle to climb the terrain, but for some reason, I thought we could "wing it". We barely made it to our cabin, and once we were there, we were scared to leave!
Luckily, we were able to make it in and out (long enough to go site-seeing during the day, take a train ride, shop, and run some necessary errands...like buying Barrett more milk and some Neosporen), but we didn't make it a habit to continue leaving the cabin.
I could go on and on about how gorgeous the scenery is. It's breath taking, and seeing every bit of nature makes me realize how wonderful our God is. I know he is everywhere, but I could truly feel his presence as I looked around at all of his creations! Ahhhhh

Okay, now let's get to little Barrett. What a big boy! He loved this trip and found so many things appealing.
*Rocks, rocks, rocks!!! We've started collecting them. He won't let me take them away from him, and I thought we were going to have to let him take them to bed.

*Climbing! Literally 10 minutes after we got settled into the cabin, Barrett decided he wanted to climb up and down the steps on the back porch/deck area. Needless to say, he fell forward (face first) and scraped up his forehead and nose. We have a nice scab that looks like a huge red booger! He's also mastered climbing on the furniture, fireplace, and coffee tables.

*Hard wood floors - Loves running back and forth on the floor. I think he can grip his little toes better, plus he enjoys hearing the pitter-patter of his own feet!

Barrett was such a trooper on the drive up there and back. Just hanging out with my little family of three was so much fun. It was something we needed and many memories were made.
Our very first TRAIN ride!!! Barrett was very serious about the entire ride!!!

I thought I had only one coon on my hands until I got to the cabin and realized I had TWO!
Just a few things that we suggest if you're heading that way...hahaha
4x4 truck
First Aid Kit
salt and pepper
hiking shoes (ditch the flip flops)
Other than that, the cabin had everything we needed! It was perfect!!!

Park Fun

My friend, Debbie, called me early on Tuesday morning about taking the kids to the park. I thought she was absolutely insane because at that moment, it was raining cats and dogs outside. However, with her positive thoughts, she told me that it would clear off and be perfect temperature. She was right!!!

Lions, Tigers, and our Sprinkler Ball

We love this sprinkler ball. After having lunch with Matt on Thursday, we came back for a little afternoon fun in the sun. Barrett spent most of his play time crawling in and out of his pool, chasing and pulling his sprinkler ball, and standing over ME while I was trying to catch a few sun rays. I gave up on getting a tan and just joined in on the fun!!!!

Matt came home telling me about a feline animal rescue (located here in Wylie), and how they've just adopted three new lions to there facility. We decided to venture out and find the place in hopes that we could catch a glimpse of the lions in person.
Lions and tigers aren't full of energy (except when they're ready to attack), so most of them were just lying around or sleeping. Because of this, Barrett barely noticed the tigers and lions behind the cages! He was more interested in the rocks and mud that surrounded the place. There was one tiger that had recently been moved to a new location and was pacing back and forth baring his teeth. Needless to say, he wasn't happy about the recent change in his environment, so we moved quickly passed that particular cage (even though Barrett kind of wanted to stick around to see what it would do.....no thanks).

A Little of This and a Little of That

Due to the fact that I was in the water the majority of the time over the 4th of July, I didn't get a chance to take many pictures. So when I was downloading some of the pictures off my camera, I realized, "oops" there were a few snapshots of Barrett. I guess my mom or Matt might have taken them.

We spent the 4th of July weekend in Throckmorton, but I'm sad to say that Barrett didn't get to see any fireworks, due to the fact that the show was rained out. He did however get to see them on t.v. and it was hilarious watching him point, saying, "Ooooh, Whoooa, Ahhhhh". He did that repetitively.

My sister and nieces came to stay with us for a couple of nights. Our mission...update scrapbooks! I didn't think we would accomplish much, but having my two nieces to entertain Barrett worked out wonderfully! I'm beginning to think I need to adopt the two of them, or hurry up and have more kids of my own! Kelsey and Karlee were great with him and he adores all the attention. Best of all, (after they left) he took two naps (both being about 2 hours long).

We've been saying a few new words that I just love listening too.
cheese (which he loves to say and eat)
bath (occasionally we get that second syllable of "tub" in there)
side (for "outside")
ite (light)
shoes
(speaking of shoes...I love these in this picture. We were heading off to church and I thought he looked so cute)

I have a calendar on the inner part of my pantry door, and when I open it, Barrett points and makes the horsey sound. I love it. He can't say horse, but he sure wants to.
He can also make animal sounds for: cow, duck, tiger, dog, and monkey.

The summer is so hot and I'm beginning to feel kind of cooped up in the house. Although I love getting out in the pool with Barrett, I feel like I need to take him to somewhere to get all his energy out. I think we might start hanging out at Chick-fil-A or the mall at one of those little kiddie playgrounds. I'll probably be following Barrett around with my sanitizer though.

We're heading out to Broken Bow, Oklahoma next weekend to stay at a beautiful cabin. The pictures of it look amazing and as far as I know, we're going to be tucked away all by ourselves surrounded by beautiful scenery. The temperature is suppose to be in the mid-80s. We're testing it out as a family this time, but soon, Matt and I might have to take a vacation for ourselves!!! I can't wait.

New Slide

We bought Barrett a slide. He loves it. I was kind of hoping it would keep him from climbing onto the couches and tables...but so far, no luck!

I also took some pictures of him dressed to go have lunch with Daddy today. We've been taking a day each week to meet Matt for a lunch date. Today was our favorite, The Blue Goose!!!! Yummy! Barrett did a pretty good job, but then decided that he wanted to pull off the table cloth. Thank goodness he didn't succeed.
