Vacation 2010

I guess you could say we embarked on a little piece of history this year by going to the Gulf Shores. Unfortunately, the oil had us beat 2 days prior to our arrival, but we didn't let that get in the way of our enjoyment.
Barrett was able to experience the beach for the first time, and I celebrated my 33rd birthday with our incredible friends, the Smiths!!!!

Here are some pictures from our time at the Gulf Shores, AL.
(Pre-haircut...I was proud of myself for letting it grow this long).

We spent a lot of time "poolside". Our beach house (pink one in the background) was steps away from one of the six pools on our resort.

Hanging out at the beach - - Barrett and I would sing the song from Nick Jr. ("Seaside") on our way to the beach every day! B caught on quickly that we were headed to the sand to collect seashells and watch all the seagulls.
This is after Barrett gave the ocean water a small "test taste". He did NOT like the flavor!
Barrett even found a precious little girlfriend at the beach. Oh wait, that is our friend, Ella Cannaday! I can't wait until they grow up and "date" (or even marry). Amanda and I will have to break out these pictures to show them. What a CUTE couple.
There was a fun little restaurant in Gulf Shores called, The Hangout. Barrett's favorite features were the Bubble Machine, little picnic tables, Limbo contest, live music, and the Balloon Man.

Father's Day

For Father's Day this year, I found a link through the Barnes and Noble website in which you can compose a book. It's a pretty neat sight (similar to Snapfish and Shutterfly). I was able to write the captions from Barrett's point of view and download some cute pictures of Matt and Barrett together.
Sunday morning, Barrett crawled up into Matt's lap and said, "Read book Daddy". Matt was just thinking it was an old book from Barrett's stash, but quickly realized it was a special book just for him!
Happy Father's Day Matthew. You're a wonderful daddy.
And this is a picture of Barrett helping his Daddy mow the lawn!!!

Flying Over Puddles

These pictures speak for themselves. My little guy loves playing in the water (even if it's run-off water from the pot plants or gutters). I can't even keep B out of the sprinklers.

For some reason, he thought he could lay on his back and try swimming in this one.

Splash Time

Although we took our first official swim over the Memorial Day weekend, I accidentally left my camera at home and didn't get any shots.
However, Barrett managed to slip on his floaties with ease, and hit the water like a little fish. He jumped off the side of the pool AND the diving board!!!! We did have a little trouble with getting him to jump "out" (meaning...jumping farther outward). He's so use to just jumping up and straight back down, that he barely cleared the side of the pool/board. It made me a nervous wreck.
So...we practiced, and practiced (outside on the sidewalk, in the yard, and believe it or not...off the couch). He's already made some big improvements.
This past weekend we made another visit to my parent's house. I absolutely love being out in the country with Barrett. He had so much fun swimming, riding Papa's tractor, riding in Papa's trucks, checking the cattle (and seeing baby calves), playing with Dixie (mom and dad's dog), finding a baby dinosaur (horned toad), throwing rocks in the tank, and going on a Safari (that's what my daddy calls it when he takes Barrett for rides on the four-wheeler out in the pasture).
New vocabulary he picked up: pump-jack and windmill
Barrett's latest thing he will say is: "Don't worry", "Sooo cute", and "Be careful".
His little imagination is running wild.
At my parent's house, my dad has started him a little collection of John Deere tractors. You laugh...but that are Barrett's favorite thing to play with at their house. I even caught him talking to them (the tractors) when he was eating. He was telling them, "No, no tractor. This is my food. Not eat it".

Good ole cousins Kelsey and Karlee!!! They're so great with Barrett. He adores them.

Barrett stumbled upon a little horned toad too. He yelled out, "Meme, yook, it's a baby dinosaur"!!!!!

Hard at Work

Did I tell you what a great exercise partner my son is? Really! He follows along right with the instructor. To me...it's hard work, but to Barrett, it is all fun and games.
Barrett feels so strong and MACHO once he has had a "hard workout"!

Speaking of work, my little guy has taken interest in working on his tricycle. I guess he sees Matt working on different things so much, that Barrett models the same behavior. We've spotted him working on his lawn mower before, but today it was his tricycle.
Listen carefully to the way he says, "screwdriver".

Boys will be BOYS

Why do boys think the "toot" sound is so funny???
Matt taught Barrett this fabulous little trick tonight. Of course Barrett had to try it out on Mommy's leg!
I have to admit, I did laugh, and Barrett seemed to be quite entertained. I just hope he doesn't decide to try this on strangers!
