The Cowtown Run

What a blast! This morning was incredible. I had a great run! I'm so glad I did it. I ran 6.2 miles in 53 minutes and 48 seconds. I think that is pretty good for a top-heavy, 32 yr. old woman!!!!
Hopefully, I'll look back on this time and laugh, because now that I have an idea of how 10Ks work, I plan on entering more (and get serious with training)!
The trail that we ran on was beautiful (except for the hills), but I got a boost of energy every time I saw a mile marker (little old man/lady holding a huge sign with the number of mile that we were on). 6 miles seemed to be over in no time!
Matt and Barrett were there to cheer me on today, and I was happy to see their faces as I crossed the finish line.
Successes for the day:
I finished in my goal time (under 60 minutes)
I didn't get trampled.
I ran the entire way.
My Nike Dry-Fit pants stayed "up" and didn't fall (during training, my old ones kept sliding down and I would have to yank them up as I was running).
I met a couple of people.
I realized how great my husband is for being a fantastic cheerleader.
I got a free t-shirt
I got a free "goody-bag"
I have a new back pack (light weight and trendy)
I found a new hobby.

Next goal time.....................50 minutes flat!

Two Days Away

I'm two days away from running in my first 10K. I hope it isn't my last. The scary part about doing this is that, I signed up without knowing what I was getting into. I still don't know, but I'm anxious to see what's in store. I don't have a trainer, and I haven't even taken the time to scan the Internet for running tips. I do however read Runners magazine and Women's Running to keep me somewhat in the loop. Let's hope that is enough.
In case you wonder why I'm blogging about this, it's because running a 10K is something totally new to me. I've never done it and I guess the curiosity of it all, has gotten the best of me.
I've kind of taken on this new adventure for a number of reasons. I must admit, it has been an exciting journey. I'm back to running distances that I ran pre-baby! That's just one milestone out of the many that I'm super proud of. Maybe Barrett will grow up to become an athlete, and I can stay in shape long enough to train with him. Who knows, maybe all of his friends will refer to me as Momma Long Legs!!!!
I have the cutest picture of Barrett doing some exercises with me tonight. He went and found another ball to do his own exercises (like momma). He's starting to mimic everything that Matt and I do. It's the sweetest thing!
Here is the latest caption from the Cowtown Marathon! Oh my...I hope I don't get trampled!
Record number of Runners! We are expecting a record number of runners currently over 20,000. So, greatly encourage all runners to arrive early. For detailed directions to Sundance Square, please click HERE.

Nothing Bundt Cakes

Okay, so I made it through the enticing, assorted chocolates that aligned the shelves at almost every store I managed to walk into over the weekend, and I survived my classroom party full of Valentine's sugar cookies, cupcakes, chocolates, and Capri Suns.
However, I will admit one thing...I ate a small cake (I don't know if you would call it a cupcake or just a little "bundt cake"), but whatever it was, it was scrumptious!!! I'm not kidding. I've tasted some really good cupcakes (like the ones from Sprinkles), but I seriously think these little cakes win 1st place!!!!
My student brought me 3 different types (red velvet, chocolate w/ chocolate icing, and vanilla w/ white chocolate icing).
Here's the website. I'm going to use this place for any upcoming showers, birthdays, or holidays that I have to provide a dessert for. Yuuummmmmmy!!!!

3 Posts

I posted three recent posts. Two posts are about SNOW days, and one is about Simple Pleasures. For some reason, the Simple Pleasures list fell down below my snow posts. I started composing it the other day, but didn't get around to finishing it until just recently.
Check it out!

Snow Day 'Round 2'

I woke up this morning to the most beautiful sound...an automated voice on the other end of the phone line, telling me that school was cancelled! Yipeeeee
I didn't even care about sleeping in. Knowing that I was going to get to stay at home with Barrett and remain in my pjs for the majority of the day, was all I could think about!

13 inches of the most amazing, beautiful, white snow. Part of me didn't want to mess it up, but Barrett and I couldn't resist. We headed outdoors. Barrett in his super-duper special rain galoshes and me in Matt's hunting boots. (I was a little disappointed that he hadn't cleaned them up and they had dried, brown mud all over them).

By the end of our adventure, we had made 2 snowmen, filled our bellies with snow ice, and found the HotWheel Barrett had lost beneath the blanket of snow.
What a fantastic day. It's one that I will never forget.

Thinking about tasting it.........

Tasting it...

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Ahhhhhhhhh coooooooooooooooold............

Saving some for later (I guess)...........

Finished product (I did all the work). Coach Barrett cheered me on!

Snow Day

What a gorgeous day! I woke up to a blanket of snow covering our yard and the size of the snowflakes falling from the sky, took my breathe away!!! It was a picture perfect day!

Simple Pleasures

I saw a post called, Simple Pleasures, that my friend Taren had posted. Immediately, a list began to form in my head, and all throughout the day and week, I haven't been able to quit thinking of little things that we all sometimes take for granted. I even had my fourth graders at school compose a list of their own simple pleasures and they loved doing it.
Enjoy the list I've started and thanks Taren for making me realize all the wonderful blessings in my life.

Here goes:
-a good book
-a fresh, new, haircut
-a firm pillow and high thread-count sheets
-husbands that cook dinner
-no laundry!!!
-a glass of wine
-flip flops
-breaking a record or goal that you've set for yourself
-a new bra (that is comfortable)
-cookie dough
-sunbathing
-seeing someone get baptized
-the feel of your baby asleep on your chest
-having a sister

School Buddy

We had lunch with Barrett's school buddy, Wyatt. It was a fun, Chilis experience!!! The boys enjoyed hanging out together (eating their Goldfish and drinking milk). Wyatt is in the same class as Barrett and it' so sweet listening to them pronounceeach other's name.
We've also upgraded to a booster seat at home. Barrett feels like such a big boy. Believe it or not, he can crawl up into our tall, chairs all by himself. I still strap him in because if I don't, he will slide right out of the booster and underneath the table. Trust me, I know!

Poo Praise

Hey y'all...I'm so excited. Barrett's school is in the process of potty training and today when we got home, he told me that he need to go, "poo". I immediately scooped him up and hauled him to the bathroom, but he started to cry and tell me that he didn't want to sit on the seat.
That's okay though...I'm just happy with the fact he knew it was time to poo and let me know! Did I mention that he did that during his bath last week with Matt....but we couldn't get him out in time, so he went in the tub again?
Hooray for Barrett today!!!! Good job, good job! Poo Praise is well deserved!!!!
Now it's time to buy a training seat. Man, I was going to wait until summer...but if he is ready, I'm ready too!
